Press Release: AACE Received Positive Response from Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington—Not to Use Race in College Admissions and Community Outreach Programs

Livingston, New Jersey: Recently, the Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE), a national organization that advocates for equal rights and opportunities in education, received a letter from Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington, assuring AACE that they will not use race in both college admissions and community outreach programs. This letter was in response to AACE’s letter of December 7, 2023, which urged the school to stop illegal use of race in admissions and its outreach/summer programs.

AACE is encouraged that in her response to our request, Professor Magdelena Balazinska, the director of Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering properly addressed both of our concerns. We also noticed that the school’s unconstitutional Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access Five-year Strategic Plan published in Fall 2021 is no longer on its website.

AACE President Yukong Mike Zhao said: “AACE welcomes the right decision made by Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington regarding the use of race in college admissions and outreach programs. AACE will continue monitoring other American colleges regarding their implementation of the U.S. Supreme Court Ruling, until the anti-Asian discrimination in college admissions has been totally rooted out in America.”
