Press Release: AACE Expresses Deep Disappointment by U.S. Supreme Court’s Inaction on Thomas Jefferson High School Case
Livingston, New Jersey: Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE) expresses deep disappointment regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision not to hear the Thomas Jefferson High School case.
While proponents of the 2020 reform on Thomas Jefferson High School’s admission system claimed it was race-neutral, evidence suggests otherwise. This reform is part of a broader racial equity agenda championed by the radical left. In September 2020, Dr. Ann Bonitatibus, principal of Thomas Jefferson High School, stated that Fairfax County Public Schools were striving for greater demographic representation in the region. However, the consequence was the discrimination and limitation of enrollment for hardworking Asian American students.
AACE stands firmly with Asian parents at Coalition for TJ and Justice Alito, who aptly observed, “The holding below effectively licenses official actors to discriminate against any racial group with impunity as long as that group continues to perform at a higher rate than other groups. That is indefensible.”
AACE President Yukong Mike Zhao said, “The imposition of unconstitutional racial equity policies by the radical left affects elite high schools across America, from Thomas Jefferson High School to the Specialized High Schools of New York City, Boston Exam Schools, and Lowell High School in San Francisco. The U.S. Supreme Court’s failure to intervene is disappointing. AACE remains committed to supporting Asian parents in their ongoing fight for equal education rights in K-12 institutions until anti-Asian discrimination is completely eradicated from America’s educational landscape.”
