For Immediate Release
Jan 14th, 2023
Livingston, New Jersey. Members of the Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE) and our partner organizations nationwide were saddened to learn that Mr. William Spencer Consovoy passed away on January 9, 2023.
Mr. Consovoy is regarded as a hero by the Asian American community, especially among those who care deeply about our children’s equal education rights. In 2014, he and Mr. Edward Blum spearheaded landmark lawsuits against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina respectively, both of which discriminate against Asian American applicants during their admission processes.
The Asian American community will remember him for his passion to defend the American Constitution and his willingness to help Asian Americans, the most politically marginalized community by American ruling classes. We will remember him for his courage to take the Harvard/UNC cases when many other lawyers bow to political pressure. We will also remember his brilliant legal mind which helped advance both cases into the U.S. Supreme Court.
Finally, we’d like to extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Consovoy’s family. Though he left us too early, he will be remembered in our nation’s civil rights history as one of the contributors to build a truly colorblind society. The cause for which Mr. Consovoy fought and we have been fighting is an honorable cause. We know this because 74% Americans support us!

About the AACE: www.asianamericanforeducation.org
Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE) is a non-political, nonprofit, grassroots national alliance with over 300 partnering organizations nationwide. In May 2015, founders of AACE united 64 Asian American organizations and filed a civil rights complaint against Harvard’s anti-Asian discriminatory admissions practice. AACE galvanized Asian American communities to stand firmly behind SFFA and exposed the Ivy League college’s anti-Asian discrimination on the national stage. Over the last eight years, in support of SFFA, AACE teamed up with over 360 Asian American organizations, organized the Boston Rally in 2018, encouraged Asian American students to join SFFA’s lawsuits, and filed four amicus briefs. Over the years, besides supporting SFFA, we have advanced the cause of equal education rights for the Asian-American community in many other areas, including federal adoption of AACE policy recommendation on college admissions in July 2018, federal lawsuit against Yale University in 2020, support to Asian Americans’ fights for equal education rights in Maryland, New York, Washington, California, Massachusetts and other states. AACE is the proven leader in fighting for Asian-American children’s equal educational rights.
