AACE Welcomes Positive Change at MIT Admissions Practice
After reviewing the enrollment data for MIT’s Class of 2028, the Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE) is pleased to acknowledge the positive changes in MIT’s admissions practices. Specifically, the increase in Asian American enrollment from 40% to 47% following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ban on considering race in admissions decisions represents a significant step toward restoring equal education rights and merit-based selection in American college admissions.
The 17.5% increase in Asian enrollment (calculated relative to the prior Asian enrollment of 40%) underscores the severity of discrimination that Asian American applicants faced before affirmative action policies were outlawed.
Admitting students based on their merits, rather than their skin color, will not only eliminate racial discrimination but also enhance America’s global competitiveness in technology and other fields. Educating the best and brightest individuals, regardless of their background, is essential for America’s continued prosperity.
It is important to acknowledge that today’s progress could not have been achieved without the tireless efforts of Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) and Mr. Edward Blum, along with the courage of numerous Asian students and over 300 Asian organizations nationwide. Their unwavering support in SFFA’s lawsuits against Harvard and UNC has been instrumental, and we express our heartfelt gratitude to all of them.
While celebrating progress, AACE remains concerned about the low admission rates for Black and Hispanic students at MIT. This disparity highlights the urgent need to address the failing K-12 education in American inner cities. AACE urges mainstream media and American society to hold politicians accountable for the state of education in inner cities.
AACE President, Mr. Yukong Zhao, stated, “We are very excited to see equal education rights and meritocracy prevail again in America. Selecting and educating the best and brightest will benefit all Americans who strive to achieve their American Dreams.”

About the AACE: www.asianamericanforeducation.org
Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE) is a non-political, nonprofit, grassroots national alliance with over 300 partnering organizations nationwide. Since 2015, AACE have been mobilizing Asian communities to stand firmly behind SFFA and exposed the Ivy League college’s anti-Asian discrimination on the national stage. Over the last eight years, AACE teamed up with over 360 Asian American organizations, organized the Boston Rally in 2018 and “Equal Education for All” rally in 2022, encouraged Asian American students to join SFFA’s lawsuits, and filed five amicus briefs. Besides supporting SFFA, we have advanced the cause of equal education rights for the Asian-American community in many other areas, including federal adoption of AACE policy recommendation on college admissions in July 2018, federal lawsuit against Yale University in 2020, support to Asian Americans’ fights for equal education rights in Maryland, New York, Washington, California, Massachusetts and other states. AACE is the proven leader in fighting for Asian-American children’s equal educational rights.
