For Immediate Release:
AACE Applauds President Trump’s Executive Orders
Rescinding Affirmative Action and Banning Woke DEI Programs
Livingston, New Jersey: On January 22, 2025, President Donald Trump signed a historic executive order overturning President Lyndon Johnson’s 1965 executive order, which created race-based hiring requirements for federal contractors. One day earlier, President Trump rescinded multiple executive orders from previous administrations that promoted DEI programs. The Office of Personnel Management also issued a memo placing all DEI employees on leave and shutting down DEI programs and offices.
For decades, Asian Americans have faced discrimination through race-based affirmative action in college admissions until the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic SFFA rulings of 2023. In the federal contracting sector, many Asian American-owned businesses have also been unfairly treated by affirmative action policies.
As one of the leading organizations fighting against race-based affirmative action for over nine years, the Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE) applauds President Trump’s executive actions.
Mr. Yukong Mike Zhao, the president of AACE, said: “Affirmative action and woke DEI programs are racism in disguise. President Trump’s executive orders rescinding affirmative action and banning DEI programs are a major milestone in American civil rights progress and a critical step towards building a color-blind society. AACE urges the U.S. Congress to enact legislation that permanently outlaws all aspects of affirmative action and DEI programs in America.”
