Dear Asian-American parents and other concerned citizens:

Each year, many Asian-American applicants with excellent extra-curricular activities, competition medals, extraordinary SAT scores, and high GPAs are unfairly rejected by Ivy League universities. On average, Asian-American students have to score 140-450 points higher in SAT than students of other races in order to attend America’s elite universities. Such illegal discrimination is happening all over the nation to Michael Wang, Jian Li, Vijay Chokal-Ingam, many other Asian-American children, and possibly to a child you know of.

To fight against such severe and widespread discrimination, in May 2015, founders of the Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE) united 64 Asian-American organizations and jointly filed a civil rights complaint with the Departments of Education and Justice against Harvard University. As the largest joint action taken by Asian-American groups to oppose such discrimination, the complaint generated an enormous amount of media attention throughout the world and attracted broad-based support from many groups across America, including bipartisan support from members of the US House of Representatives.

In response to a call from AACE, on July 20 and September 3, 2015 respectively, two Asian-American families filed individual complaints with the Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education, against Ivy Leagues schools for the schools’ unfair rejection of their children. Their courageous acts further exposed this unjustified discrimination.

On September 10, 2015, representing 117 Asian-American organizations, AACE and the Asian American Legal Foundation jointly filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Fisher v University of Texas urging a total ban on racial discrimination in college admissions.

Our actions have demonstrated that AACE is the proven leader in fighting for Asian-American children’s equal education rights. However, in spite of our efforts, most of American top universities have not yet changed their discriminatory practices against Asian-American applicants. It is imperative to build AACE as a sufficiently-funded organization to continue and expand our endeavors in this area, including:

1. Launching media campaigns and conducting community outreach to increase public awareness;
2. Uniting Asian-American organizations, filing administrative complaints, or taking legal action against universities that discriminate against Asian-American applicants;
3. Encouraging and supporting discriminated-against Asian-American students in filing complaints or taking legal action;
4. Advocating for legislative changes promoting equal educational opportunity for all;
5. Filing position papers on relevant policy and legal issues; and
6. Funding research to support relevant policy and legal initiatives.

The pathway to success in America, especially for immigrants, has always been through education. This illegal discrimination is limiting our children’s educational opportunities and depriving them of their precious childhoods because they have to spend so much extra time studying in an attempt to overcome this discrimination instead. With your support, we will have better chance to stop this injustice.

Please join this fight, for your own children, our grandchildren, and their children, and for all Asian Americans. AACE welcomes your tax deductible donations at the following levels:
