AACE 2024 Review: Defending Equal Education Rights and Restoring Meritocracy!
Dear AACE Supporters,
As we conclude 2024, we are pleased to report that the Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE) has had a fruitful year serving Asian American communities and helping America achieve educational excellence.
After the U.S. Supreme Court struck down race-based college admissions (Affirmative Action) on June 29, 2023, we saw significant increases in Asian American enrollment at many top universities that faithfully followed the law:
- MIT: Asian enrollment increased by 7% from 40% in 2023 to 47% in 2024.
- Johns Hopkins: Asian enrollment increased by 14% from 32% in 2023 to 46% in 2024.
- Columbia: Asian enrollment increased by 9% from 30% in 2023 to 39% in 2024.
- Brown: Asian enrollment increased by 4% from 29% in 2023 to 33% in 2024.
However, we also saw Asian enrollment drop at a few colleges that did not faithfully implement the U.S. Supreme Court SFFA rulings. At Duke, Asian enrollment dropped from 29% in 2023 to 23% in 2024, and at Yale, it dropped from 30% in 2023 to 24% in 2024.
To defend Asian American equal education rights, on September 10, 2024, AACE sent a letter to Yale Board of Trustees, formally requesting a thorough review and correction of potential illegal practices in Yale College’s admissions process. Our review identified several practices that may not fully comply with the Supreme Court’s Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) rulings.
In January 2024, we received a letter from Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington, assuring us that they will not use race in college admissions or community outreach programs. This was in response to our letter of December 7, 2023, urging the school to stop the illegal use of race in admissions and outreach/summer programs.
Additionally, AACE has been focusing on the restoration of meritocracy in American educational institutions.
- Representing over 80 Asian American and other organizations nationwide, on May 17, 2024, AACE, along with the Asian American Legal Foundation (AALF) and Friends of Lowell Foundation (FOLF), submitted an amicus brief to the Supreme Court,, requesting the Court hear the case of Boston Parent Coalition for Academic Excellence v. the School Committee for the City of Boston.
- On June 29, 2024, we successfully hosted the Second National Conference on Equal Education Rights at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Unlike other educational conferences organized by the American establishment, this event directly confronted major flaws in America’s educational policymaking, including the ignorance of global competition in technology, failure to address the STEM talent shortage, reluctance to tackle the K-12 education crisis in inner cities, and an overly myopic focus on promoting woke DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) agendas.
In summary, 2024 has been another productive year for AACE. With your support, we actively monitor colleges to ensure faithful implementation of the Supreme Court’s SFFA rulings. Additionally, we have taken significant steps in our fight to restore meritocracy in America’s educational institutions, including advocating for the proper roles of standardized testing.
Finally, we are excited to see that American voters have elected President Trump back to the White House. He has a proven record of supporting equal education rights for Asian Americans. We will seek cooperation opportunities with the upcoming Trump Administration to advance our causes: pursuing equal education rights and meritocracy for Asian and all other Americans.
To continue our work, we need continuous funding from Asian communities. Please make generous donations to the Asian American Coalition for Education and help us spread our message. https://asianamericanforeducation.org/en/donate/

Wishing you and your family a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!
